This page is all about worship and the ways people go about it.
The Expession of worship through outward motion.
Congregations throughout all the many denominations of Christians around the world worship in many diferent ways. Some are calm and respectfull, others are wildly exuberant in their praise of their Savior. The Bible teaches many things about how to worship, and this is a place to get some specific info on what all these practices can do for your time with God. These are my personal views, but many have simply been adopted from official doctrines, sermons, and studies over the topic.
Standing
This may be taken for granted as a means of expression during worship, as it is common and ofter cursory behavior. When I stand during worship this is honoring God with rising in acknowledgement of His presence and Glory. I have also come to realize that whether standing or kneeling or lying on the floor I am often physically a little uncomfortable. This is good! For one thing it brings my mind to bear on what is at hand and helps me focus on God (the whole reason I am there). For another thing my being uncomfortable is a sacrifice to God of my comfort. From animal sacrifice to Jesus' own death and seperation from The Father, sacrifice has always been a means of satisfying justice, but also fasting and kneeling and other physical sacrifices are a way of purifying us of our own distractions or impurities.
Lifting Hands
When worshipers lift thier hands, they are making an outward show of an inner attitude. This may be in loving admiration with hands turned palms out and raised high in the air, or it may be with open hands reaching out as if to accept or ask for forgiveness or other healing gifts. I have seen a trend in my own worship to bend in half while seated and raise my hands over my head palms up and asking for healing and forgivness. Also I feel that this shows I am unworthy to approach his awesome majesty. Untill he has given me his peace that I may rise in joy or rest in warmth of comfort I may stay this way
Lying face down
I may also lie face down on the floor with hands stretched in front of me asking for what is burdened on my heart. I am presenting myself humbly before His throne by His command and by His grace.
Conclusion
I have seen that these things clear some of the dullness or routine of prayer and put my body in agreement with my mind and my will. These things can also be applied to personal prayer time. These are good reasons for fasting as well, but that is another article.
Worship that costs nothing is worthless. Read more about it in 2 Samuel 24:24.
